Vanpool Aid

Thinking about vanpooling?  Financial assistance from RideWise and NJ TRANSIT makes it easy to get a vanpool started and keep it on the road.

Start-Up Subsidies
Vanpools are eligible for a one-time start-up subsidy, up to $500.  In order to qualify, vans must:
  • be leased from VPSI (Vanpool Services Inc.)
  • register with RideWise within one month of starting up
  • have passengers occupying 50% of the available seats
  • have a Somerset County worksite as its final destination

 Empty Seat Subsidies
Vanpools are eligible for a RideWise temporary subsidy ($80 per seat) to help cover the cost of seats that lose passengers.  In order to qualify, vans must:
  • be leased from VPSI (Vanpool Services Inc.)
  • be registered with RideWise
  • be in operation for 90 days prior to receiving an empty seat subsidy
  • have a Somerset County worksite as its final destination

Vanpool groups that terminate their lease within 90 days of receiving a start-up or empty seat subsidy must repay all funds received back to RideWise.

NJ TRANSIT Vanpool Sponsorship
Vanpools can receive $175 per month from NJ TRANSIT towards leasing costs.  Vans must be leased from one of the participating vanpool providers listed above, travel to a Somerset County worksite, and complete group and individuals rider applications.
